The Lamborghini SC63 in Qatar

Strong reliability gives #63 a top 15 result as Iron Dames score first points in LMGT3 Lamborghini Iron Lynx delivered a breakthrough result for the SC63 LMDh prototype by finishing in its first ever appearance in the top class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Qatar.

Qualifying

On Friday morning, the team had the opportunity to prepare for qualifying in the final practice session, with Kvyat setting the fastest time of the three drivers early on (1m 42.653s). Tyre temperature build-up was a real issue for most crews in the 12-minute qualifying session, but Kvyat still managed to set the best lap time for the SC63 with a 1m41.699s, putting the #63 car in 18th place, albeit with plenty of room for improvement.

Race

The race began at 11:00 local time, and with Kvyat at the wheel, the #63 car successfully navigated the opening salvo, maintaining its position and finishing in the top 15 until the first scheduled pit stop. In the early stages, the pace of the SC63 was similar to that of the cars around it, and Kvyat managed to battle with the #35 Alpine and the two BMWs towards the end of his double stint.

Mortara also had an entertaining battle with the recovering #51 Ferrari in the third hour before dropping back after another round of stops. From then on, the Lamborghini SC63 stuck to its lap programme, with the emphasis on reliability and efficiency in the pits. Bortolotti took the wheel and led the car until the halfway point before handing it over to Kvyat, with each driver completing an average of 30 laps in the car. Unfortunately, the #63 car suffered a problem with the front suspension, forcing Kvyat to reduce his pace and lose four laps to the leaders with just over three hours of the race remaining. Despite this problem, the team remained focussed and kept the car running, making it faster and faster in the closing stages. Mortara completed a triple stint with relative ease, benefiting from mechanical issues on both the #15 BMW and the #38 Jota Porsche to take the chequered flag in a respectable 14th place.
